The importance of a high quality, professional and thematic voice cannot be overstated when it comes to commercials and advertising. There is a world of difference between someone “saying the words” and someone connecting with the script to tell your brand’s story.
Whenever I am approached to provide narrative of expository dialogue for a commercial there is a single question in my mind:
“How do I connect to the listener/viewer?”
This remains true no matter whether I am reading brand statements, CTA’s, brand slogans or legalese. A copy writer has spent a long time applying their skills to deliver a key message about a brand or product and my job is not to sell it, but to find the human connection within the brand’s message and bring it to life.
With industries quickly recognizing that connection over sales is the best way to win customers it is important to have a VO that can deliver on a range of emotions and provide authentic, honest and natural reads but also be able to tap into a whole range of styles should it be required.
The versatility I aim to provide is expounded on tremendously by my ability to host live directed sessions using Zoom, Skype or Source Connect, where clients can provide feedback to in the moment. I am however highly skilled at interpreting a clients needs for self-directing. It’s important that you have options so whenever I record I will provide multiple takes for variety, and should you have any feedback I am always happy to get back in the booth and send another take.
